I know this will not be a popular thing to say, but I can't help it. It's my blog & I'll be pissy if I want to. So today I'm reading all this news/posts about the 2 guys who died during the Philadelphia marathon on the weekend. It is a tragedy, absolutely! My heart & prayers go out to their families. What gets me on my high horse are the people who say "see, running will kill you" , or "running a marathon is dangerous & there should be more REGULATING of it". But no one (except one magazine article I read) makes mention of how many lives that running saves! Thousands of people each year die from sitting on their couches forking back crappy food. Thousands more die or are dismembered by diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is almost entirely preventable by exercise and diet! How many people ran Phili? Around 26,000? Thats alot of people who made a CHOICE to live healthier and embrace excercise! How awesome is that???? Freaky things happen all over. We can't always control it? But what if you considered that maybe those 2 guys bought themselves a couple extra years through a healthy running lifestyle? So yeah, occasionally someone dies running.....I kinda hope I go that way....at least I'm doing something that brings me joy.
That's me on my soapbox. Peace out my friends.

Great post! I agree 100%.
well of course running does not kill people..I agree
with that..the thing is some of these running deaths could have been prevented as well and THAT to me is a tragedy...I posted about the Philly marathon as you know...I think these incidents should make the RUNNERS make an appt for a physical and I think that the advices I posted are worth considering. After my own incident I know I will. Why not have all 26000 finish the race alive...that is better than 25 998..I know you agree with this.
people who are not runner will say marathon are dangerous...that is ignorance
people like my husband will say hearing about those deaths scares him..I get that.
The big turkey dinner is on Christmas Day for us!
is that a new header? it is right! I love that picture!
I agree with you totally, people did every day doing various activities (driving cars, sitting on the couch, etc). The media loves these kind of stories because they are easy to cover and make a headline out of.
I agree with you to. I also believe that God has our days numbered and we dont have any control of that. Great post
I too love your new header girl.
Great post. We actually had this discussion in my office yesterday. One of my co-workers said, "See, that's what's gonna happen to you!" I replied by explaining to them that MILLIONS of people successfully run marathons each year and that most marathoners are much healthier than the average person. I also told them that more people would die in KC from car accidents than running deaths this year. But NON-ACTIVE people use these type of articles to justify their doing nothing. I think anyway.
Oh hey!! Listen, I read an online article about those deaths. It was from a newspaper in Philly and you should have read the responses!!! Kid you not! People commented things like "only people with low self esteem run". My mind is boggled by what the sedentary have led themselves to believe. I live in a small, rural community and I get some NASTY looks from moms and overweight women at the soccer fields. I'm told that I'll die and that I'm crazy and stupid, etc. I'm like you, I would rather die running than in a car wreck.
